The Importance Of Good Agriculture Practices



Good Agriculture Practices (GAP) is an integrated farming system that managing all resource of farm productivity in a safe "healthy" way. The system is expected to increase crop yield with the production of safe and quality food that takes into safety and health, worker's welfare and protection of the environment.

The good practices proposed in GAP are universally known as science-based rationales and justifications. Meanwhile, the close monitoring and specific control system provides assurances of safety to the consumers of GAP produce. There are many GAP campaign like EurepGAP, ThaiGAP, ChinaGAP, IndoGAP, IndiaGAP, KenyaGAP, GlobalGAP, etc.

What are the importance of GAP to the farmers ? It is because Globalization and Free Trade. World market trade now is open and the consumer demands for safe, high quality food (pesticide residue) and many more. So, The farmers must follow the requirement of sanitary and phytosanitary standards (SPS). Other than that, the commitment of all government in the country that implement GAP to have sustainable agriculture for people (workers and buyers), profit (farmers) and planet.





The Benefit Of GAP :

1) Production of quality and safe crop produce, due to pesticeide residues which are at the permitted level.

2) Reduction of pollution to the environment.

3) Emphasis on the importance of integrated pest management.

4) Reduction of pesticide usage.

5) Guarantee of worker's safety and welfare.

6) Increase crop production

7) Crop produce which are competitive at domestic and international market.

8) Helps develop the national agricultural industry in an environmentally and sustainable way.


We as a farmers must know that major manufactures and buyers are now demanding agricultural products that are produced in a safe and sustainable way and conforming to satandards of GAP.
